Where there is an acrylic yarn sweater, it should be replaced with a wool sweater. Where ever a plastic shotgun casing is found, it should be replaced by a paper hull. Milk used to be delivered in refillable glass half gallon and half pint glass jars and should be again. The list goes on and on. Sort of. I worked Knott’s Berry Farms Halloween haunted house attraction. I would pose as a statue behind a wall until the biggest toughest looking guys would come by. Just as they passed me and my two-faced mask, I would swing my Viking axe towards them and scream. 300lb football players running away is hilarious. Who cares? I don’t understand the hysteria over it. A comedian “went too far” with a Halloween mask and some ketchup - oh heavens to Betsie! What is happening with civility these days? No Halloween masks were harmed in this prank.

An ex friend of mine knew I loved Halloween so she bought me a Halloween sign that said ‘Boo to you’. I always thought it was tacky, acted like I liked it because I felt she was thinking of me. It never sat right with me and as time went on she became unbearable. I do not speak to her anymore. Halloween. Synchronized swimming. Horror movies. Extreme/ dangerous activities like mountain climbing, snake handling, walking on hot coals, running with the bulls, etc. Sex change and cross dressing, massive wars and ethnic cleansing, large scale pollution, suppressing huge technological advances for military advantage, organized dancing like square dancing or clogging or the hokie pokie. We humans are a strange lot. I wonder if aliens have a sense of humor like ours and laugh at us? Where ever a plastic Halloween pumpkin is found, it need to be replaced by a field-grown pumpkin.

I remember watching Halloween 6 for the first time back in the mid 90s and was surprised at how gory it was. The franchise never had a reputation for being ultra violent. I say the same for Psycho III. once, years ago we decided we needed to eat around more verses jack in the box 6 times in one year. So, we can only go to each restaurant 3 times a year total so we space it out. Like pizza on new year's day, the superbowl and a Halloween pizza party so you have to be creative in spacing it out. Some places we never eat at like McDonald's, chipotle, subway, arbys, dunkin, carl jr, burger king, Cesar's, Domino's, so only once per restaurant each month. That would depend on how innately talented a person was……I saw one guy (Villaine?) on Halloween wars, who for years carved pumpkins try….for the first time to sculpt a demon out of eatable modeling chocolate and it was great…..he could just DO it.

Halloween is about imagination, of flights of fancy, from fairy princesses to walking mummy zombies people can put away reality, celebrate the chance to be something or someone else and, in many parts of the world, the chance to reach out to lost friends and relatives, to think of them, to pray for them and to bring their memories close to the heart once again before preparing for the long cold winter ahead.

There are certain gestures that can be reassuring to a child, such as posting one of their drawings, or carrying around a photo that you proudly show to other people (maybe the child in Halloween costume along with you). This communicates “I will be with you and sharing the joy of life with you in the future” in a very specific, identifiable way. Each time you discuss the plans, you confirm that your picture of the future includes her. Find games that are her favorites and set up consistent patterns where she gets to play those with you. Something as simple as saying “Let’s play Go Fish!” can be calming. Make extra efforts to include her. Find a way for her to help in the kitchen, or making beds, or other tasks, even when you don’t really need the help. It’s a way of saying, “You are a responsible, permanent member of this family, not a guest.” Following up on the prior point, when you do have guests over, make sure your daughter is helping you host, and is not being treated as one of the guests.

Plays well with other dogs.

Communists love to share. Is Fido running around and playing with the neighbors' dogs, or setting an example of group identity? Watch your dog closely to make sure that there isn't too much order and unity in its group of pals. If there's anything Commies love to do, it's form groups of like-minded thinkers. In addition, observe the structure and hierarchy of the group. Is your dog a follower? If so, then it may be possible to sway him or her back to capitalist values. If your dog is acting leftist AND acting as a leader, call your local animal control.
