Why would anyone do such a mean thing to a defenseless animal anyway? When a cat is picked up by its tail, its whole body weight is hanging from their tail. Painful for the poor cat. Why would anyone think this is okay or even to do it? In the same token, years ago I picked up my pet cat by the skin at the back of its neck. I didn’t know it was wrong; I thought since mother cats do that to lift their babies it was normal. I did not know this chokes the poor cat. After that first time, I learned it was wrong, and never did it again. I still feel guilty about it. And that the mother cat does not bite into the skin to carry her babies. She picks them up with her mouth around the body, enough bite to carry it but never to hurt it.

Ask someone like Bob whether oxygen is dangerous. Of course not, he will say conclusively. Is Bob aware that inhaling pure oxygen over an extended period of time can be lethal? Does he know that pure oxygen is incredibly volatile and must be handled with great care to avoid combustion? Does he know that air is only about 20% oxygen and that nitrogen, which makes of the majority of air, is necessary to prevent oxygen from killing us? Please understand that this is not an across the board observation that applies to all Trump supporters. I’m sure many of them are aware of oxygen’s less desirable properties. As important, there are many people who are not Trump supporters who suffer from the same deficit. That’s not the point. The real issue is that Trump and his acolytes have learned to play on this deficit among a subset of the population to great effect.

Trump supporters will read a report that says masks reduce the amount of available oxygen to the wearer without understanding that there is far more oxygen in the air than people need. In fact, much of what you exhale is unused oxygen.

Those two numbers should provide a rational observer with the understanding that there will be quite a few breakthrough infections but that one refusing the vaccine is far more likely to become infected, not to mention far more likely to suffer with more intense symptoms.
