Trump supporters will claim that mask wearing doesn’t do anything to prevent transmission because the virus is much smaller than the mask’s ability to filter without understanding that the virus is carried by aerosolized water droplets that are large enough to be filtered by a mask. Further, they argue that masks haven’t proved all that effective against stopping the wearer from becoming infected despite the fact that that isn’t the purpose of the mask. Surgeons don’t wear masks to protect themselves but rather to protect their patient by maintaining a sterile field. Trump supporters will read a report that says masks reduce the amount of available oxygen to the wearer without understanding that there is far more oxygen in the air than people need. In fact, much of what you exhale is unused oxygen.
