To declaw a cat, they must be put under anesthesia. While there certainly are times when this is medically necessary, it is taking a chance when there is not a medical reason to have general surgery. Yes, surgery is much safer than it used to be for both humans and animals, anesthesia, though, can still cause problems. Cats can have a reaction to the anesthesia which can cause other medical issues (maybe even life long) or they could die during surgery. It’s possible that they could lose a lot of blood during surgery. That can be dangerous. They could develop an infection after surgery. Declawing a cat is not a good reason for putting them at risk this way since it is not a medically necessary procedure.
