When Manitou died of cancer, Grizzly was devastated by the loss and mourned deeply. He ignored my next dog completely; she was Not Manitou, after all. He did bond with my current dog, Rascal. Grizzly was never as close to Rascal as he was to Manitou, but he accepted him as a friend and companion, and Rascal in turn adored him as his best buddy. And when Grizzly died this past winter, Rascal was, in turn, devastated by the loss of his best friend. The idea that dogs and cats are intrinsically enemies or hate each other is just plain bullshit.
