The disappearances got longer

The disappearances got longer. Eventually she did completely vanish. I haven’t seen her for probably six months. But given how slowly it happened, I’m pretty sure she found somebody else, rather than having something happen to her. Another cat who did something similar, I know, was adopted, because I ran into her and her new family a couple of months later on a walk around the neighborhood. So disappearances don’t always mean tragedy. So cats certainly can disappear for a while and then turn back up. A couple weeks isn’t impossible.

None of them have ever disappeared for more than five days - and when Blaise didn’t show up for five days, I honestly thought he was dead. When he did come back, he’d lost weight and had probably gotten a door closed on him and had been trapped somewhere. Cats have territories, though they can and often do share them, or their territories overlap with other cats. I don’t want to give you false hope. If the cat that lived almost exclusively in your backyard has suddenly been gone for a while, it probably wasn’t his idea. It doesn’t mean he absolutely isn’t coming back. But almost certainly, something happened.
