Or, it's actually possible that the puppy stepped in his/her feces and it got on you and then you rubbed your eyes or had your fingers in your mouth. When playing with a strange puppy/dog or even if he/she is your dog but maybe you all came in from outside it's always important to wash your hands. I really like the antibacterial wipes from Jax and Daisy for their paws. Having said all of that, if you don't feel better in a few days it wouldn't hurt anything to pop into the doctor's office and see what they think. You could also be catching a cold of some sort as well but again, I can pretty much promise you that you were not exposed to rabies.

The only way someone is even able to get rabies in the first place is if they get bit by a rabid animal or they decide to go out trying to eat infected squirrels! I don't really think either of those things are factors in your situation though right? I also highly doubt that the cute little puppy you were playing with was displaying any signs of having rabies. Which include but are not limited to, foaming at the mouth, bleeding at the site where they were bitten by the infected animal and severe neurological changes. Have you ever seen that movie Cujo? That's rabies.

Communal animals tend to relieve themselves in the presence of a “lookout.” They are more vulnerable while doing their business and so someone else in the pack has their back. Naturally, they want to do this for you. It’s the same reason some dogs (and even cats) will only eat with their human present. You are supposed to protect them while they’re focused on something else. If someone ever attacked you while you were taking a dump, you’d appreciate your dog’s close attention!

If it's a handler issue, the K9 could be reassigned to a new handler. If it's a non-correctable K9 issue the K9 could be recycled to the company the dog came from or retired from service. Just like law enforcement officers, or people serving in the US Military, not everyone will make it through all the training requirements.
