For Christmas one year our department had our Secret Santa gift exchange and for my co worker she wanted a pair of Christmas socks and earrings. This girl was in her 20’s and wore children’s shoes, literally, because her feet were extremely small. So I thought she wore children’s socks as well. I bought her the cutest pair of Christmas socks and a pair of Christmas earrings. I put it all into a beautiful Christmas bag and thought she would love my gift. During the exchange she opened her gift and when she held up the socks she yelled,”What in the hell? Who in the hell bought me Children’s socks?” I said,”It was me and I figured since you wore Children’s shoes you wore children’s socks.” She said angrily,”Ummmm……noooo.” I felt crushed, but told her I would take them back and exchange them. She threw them back into the bag and gave it to me. The earrings weren’t what she wanted either. Apparently she wanted regular earrings, but the Christmas ones were fine. ((Rolls eyes)) I don’t recall her saying thank you. She did thank me for the new socks I brought to her the next day, but 20 years later I’m still confused. Why would she wear children’s shoes and not children’s socks? Wouldn’t the adult socks be too big for her shoes?
