Cats started hanging around humans about 8000 years ago in the fertile crescent. Their excellent rodent hunting skills were prized. The cats ate the rats and mice that would eat the human’s grain storage. Humans allowed and encouraged cats to stay around. Cats domesticated themselves. We can tell cats were prized as pets and rodent control because we have found cats buried with love and honor. Sometimes cats would be buried with their master. Cats have been mummified in some cultures.
