I went back downstairs to see if the TV was still acting strange. Everything was normal again. Their father was sitting in his easy chair reading the Wall Street Journal, the report cards all but forgotten. That seemed to be the end of whatever had been going on. The girls told their friends we had a poltergeist, or a ghost, but I always thought differently. Wasn’t it strange that those things only happened when their father was on a verbal rampage? Wasn’t it strange how it all disappeared when the girls and I went upstairs and he stopped yelling? I have been living in San Francisco for about 20 years now but am originally from Mexico. In Mexico, Halloween is not traditionally celebrated (although that is now changing.) Around the same date, though, Mexicans celebrate The Day of The Dead (on November 2.)
