To declaw a cat, they must be put under anesthesia. While there certainly are times when this is medically necessary, it is taking a chance when there is not a medical reason to have general surgery. Yes, surgery is much safer than it used to be for both humans and animals, anesthesia, though, can still cause problems. Cats can have a reaction to the anesthesia which can cause other medical issues (maybe even life long) or they could die during surgery. It’s possible that they could lose a lot of blood during surgery. That can be dangerous. They could develop an infection after surgery. Declawing a cat is not a good reason for putting them at risk this way since it is not a medically necessary procedure.

However, even cats who are indoors all of the time sometimes find themselves on the street. Unfortunately, there are some people who throw a cat onto the street when they don’t want him/her anymore. Sometimes cats escape because something in the house scares them (strangers coming into the house to work, a loud bang, etc.). In fact, I once had a cat find herself on the porch. She was running down the hallway. She normally would stop at the door. This day, though, someone happened to come through the door just as my cat made it to the door. The person didn’t have time to register that this wild cat was running her way and the cat was running so fast that she didn’t realize the door was open. Fortunately, my cat was a bit shocked to find herself on the porch, so she just sat there and we were able to just pick her up and bring her back inside. She could have, though, just kept running. If our neighbor's dog (who was always escaping) had started chasing her, Katy wouldn’t have been able to protect herself at all.

If I had a vet who was willing to do that to a cat, I would find a new vet. I will say that there might be a very small percentage of cats who might need to have the procedure done for a medical reason, but that would be rare; and, if there were a medical reason, I’m guessing that the vet would only remove the one claw or only the ones on the paw where there is a medical issue. It would have to be a major medical issue, though. Most people want to have their cats declawed because they don’t want to get scratched or care more about their furniture than the cat. Those are not reasons for getting a cat declawed. So, no. You should not get your cat declawed. It is not even something you should be considering.

Why would anyone think this is okay or even to do it? In the same token, years ago I picked up my pet cat by the skin at the back of its neck. I didn’t know it was wrong; I thought since mother cats do that to lift their babies it was normal. I did not know this chokes the poor cat. After that first time, I learned it was wrong, and never did it again. I still feel guilty about it. And that the mother cat does not bite into the skin to carry her babies. She picks them up with her mouth around the body, enough bite to carry it but never to hurt it.

My dog was amazing

My dog was amazing. He was the most intelligent dog even when I got him at a shelter. There was this person that had the first choice and the dog just wanted to be with us. I was lucky That the lady didn’t choose to get him . He gave me many years of his attentiveness and licks and paws to make sure to have fun with him. My favorite one is when I had fed him, maybe within an hour when I was either in. The bathroom or on the phone he would put his paw on the food bowl and my boyfriend would feed him. He was a slick maneuver!! I still love him and my other dogs. Dogs are amazing now I have a different dog that 6 people kept returning. He’s not a lab, but He’s amazing too. Dogs and humans make a great team.

My 12 your old cocker spaniel loves swimming and as it’s low impact on her arthritic joints we take her frequently and have done so since she was young as she loves water. However, throughout all these years she’s never attempted nor shown any desire to submerge her head underwater and is constantly watched when paddling/swimming in case she gets into any difficulties. On a few occasions she has panicked when the water has got a little too deep for her and she hasn’t been able to keep her head up and has had to be ‘rescued’. We only ever let her swim in shallow water and not quite sure why anyone would want their dog swimming underwater?

While I think that the swamp cats have beautiful coloring and they act a bit like a regular house cat, I would not want one. They are wild animals and belong in the wild. They can range in size from about 5 to 35 pounds. I know I would not want a 35 pound predator living with me. Can you imagine the bites or scratches? They are similar in size to our North American bobcats. They are also beautiful. I see them in the wild sometimes. I wouldn't want one of them either. Wild creatures need to be wild. Our common house cats found their way into human homes thousands of years ago. They domesticated themselves. Cats live with us but even our housecat reserves a bit of their wild side. My cat Marley is as wild as I want to get.

Innocuous language is used to ‘politely’ condemn the offending group. “it’s a lifestyle choice” “they are following a false profit” Sounds reasonable and compassionate to church member but is offensive to the relevant group. Leaving the ‘church’ is severely frowned upon. Those that leave are disowned, either subtlety or outright shunned.

To start with the church was a very loving and accepting place. According as I became more involved I was pushed away from friends that were not members of the church. The church drove a wedge between my family and myself. The church were Biblical literalists, but typically only the bits that agreed with their world view. This made question the existence of God and my place and purpose in the world. I later found out that a church member was told to, and did disown their teenage child. How evil does one have to be to convince a parent to abandon their child? It is up their with getting someone to fly an aeroplane into a building. Don’t get me wrong not all religious groups are bad. Some are unbelievably good and inspiring. But when they’re bad they can be evil beyond belief. The trick is to look for the tell tail signs that the church may have cult like behaviour.

The kitty on the couch is my Tas

The kitty on the couch is my Tas. When sitting up, they were twins. Their only difference was eye color. Getty’s were bright gold, but Tas’ eyes were a green the color of peridots. But anyway, since I couldn’t get down into the woods, he apparently felt that I didn’t care because he never came to visit me again. I saw him around for another year or two before he disappeared forever. He was only about five years old when he disappeared. My Tas developed diabetes and passed away at the age of 14. I still mourn the loss of these two special “buds”.

The dog was so high strung that after four days I was becoming high strung from just being around the dog. I thought for a while that I was unable to help this dog. Was superbly leash trained so on the fifth day I took a 20 ft rope and leashed Hanah. I had a friend hold the end of the rope and ride on the back of my motorcycle. Hanah followed perfectly. Long story short, after 2 miles at 35 mph when we got back she was a 100% different dog. Started taking her to the open park close by every day. She was so good off leash and would come when called excellently that I would simply let her run and run for about 5 minutes, which was about two miles. She would come back to me even without calling and was the perfect dog. After a week or so she could go a couple of days without her fix and after 6 months only needed a run about twice a week. Your situation is probably very different but the moral of the story is that a high energy dog needs exercise and a lot of it. Good luck.
