The most successful herd dogs I’ve ever seen at work were a tag-team of German Shepherds and Border Collies… The Collies excelled at moving the herd from place to place, and the German Shepherds excelled at keeping the herd in one portion of that day's pasture. I highly recommend you find an experienced Goatherd or Herding Dog Trainer in your area, watch as your mentor works THEIR dogs and goats, visit some Herd Dog Trials and get a feel for what herd dog suits you and your herd best.
